Flu Vaccination Update

The uptake on flu vaccinations has been incredible this year with more people aware of the positive benefits of getting themselves vaccinated against this debilitating condition. This has put huge pressure on the NHS and the supply chain to provide sufficient vaccines in such a short period of time. In addition the need for social distancing has meant that some GP practices have not been able to administer the vaccine to as many patients as they would normally.

At Bankton Pharmacy we have been providing both NHS and Private Flu Vaccinations to patients. Last year over the whole season we vaccinated about 80 patients. This year we vaccinated  200 patients, from all over East Lothian, in the first two weeks after vaccines were made available. As you can imagine this has resulted in us, along with every other pharmacy, running out of stock.

At the time of writing it would appear that we will not be receiving any more vaccines from the NHS  for the free NHS service for the time being. We are still expecting more vaccinations for private patients but we currently do not have a date for delivery.

If you qualify for a free NHS vaccine please speak to your GP practice who will arrange an appointment for you at one of the local flu clinics
